Tag, I'm it.

FIRST: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.
SECOND: Tag eight sexy people. Don't refuse to do that like a pansy.

Who sleeps in bed next to you?
Plushie Shampoo

What did you last eat?
2 Baked buns with hotdogs, cheese, curry ketchup and mayo.

What kind of books do you read?
Books... Those stacks of paper? Thriller novels, I guess? And manga.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
I feel pretty fine here, thanks.

What's really creepy?
I am, but aside from that, prejudice.

Name one odd item within five feet of you.
If it would be odd, what would it be doing here? The oddest thing is the passport renewal letter.

What's your current fandom / obsession / addiction?
The one it's always been? My wonderfully delicious Shampoo addiction.

What did you really want to do today that you didn't?
Be in bed at 7, like friday.

What are you most excited for?
Pretty much the bachelor party. But otherwise not much.

What websites do you always visit when you go online?
Hotmail.

What was the last thing you bought?
A couple of cool gadgets that I still need to get. I also need to get my items from Vistaprint and an item from eBay. Geez, that's been taking a while.

If you could have any pet, what would it be?
A lynx, or in the more fantastic spheres, a humanoid familiar (size irrelevant). With purple hair.

Your past life: Tell me about it.
He's my past. I want to bury him, but he's burned into me. He's part of me.

What do you want right this minute, off the top of your head?
Shampoo. And not the hair kind, I can't use it anymore. ^_~

Where is the place you like to return to in order to calm down / relax / etc.?
I'm here.

What's one thing that terrifies you that nobody else gets?
Car exhaust. Since that internship I found out what's being pumped out of those machines, and it terrified the hell out of me. What you know CAN kill you.

What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
I like how we're getting along right now, and hope we can keep it up.

Are there any bits of childhood that you miss?
Innocense. And carefreeness.

Say something to the person who tagged you.
You're an awesome person. How long till you finish school?

I refuse to tag 8 people, and I do it like a man!

Very very, very, very... VERY obvious answer: Shampoo. Because she's cute and nice and adorable and totally needs to know not everyone on this rotten planet thinks of her as a bimbo who fails to master the Japanese/English language! I'd like to see any of you learn a language in two-three weeks! I believe in you, Shampoo! >_<*

Also, since my answer was about as predictable as the HS2 crashin' after a week (inside joke), I wanted to mention someone else, but all the female charaters from shows I know of are so bland and characterised or totally uninteresting, I wouldn't want a date with them. Now I wouldn't want a date, per se, but a nice dinner with the Doctor (it could be a date if he'd regenerate into a female body, but it'd still be awkward XD). Mostly because he's just very fascinating.

Hmm, maybe Deanna Troi might be an option, but not in her daily attire. I'd probably go all man on her (thought-wise), she'd read my emotions and slap me silly. XD

Two days Audition-free. Pretty sure I'm gonna play some tomorrow, but for now, I'm into Metal Drift, which is sort of a combination of Hi-Octane (a super-awesome game) and Hyperblade (a bloody and super-awesome game). It also has a player-skill based leveling system, like Audition, amusingly enough. It's pretty... super-awesome. *_*

I can feel it

Last time I felt this, it's been so long, but a feeling like this is burned into your mind forever. The gaping hole of a complete emotionless vacuum. The first time I felt this, it was a welcoming wave of optimism. A sprint away from a horrible depression that still touches me with its dark clutches whenever I remember it.

But this time... There's no proper reason. I've got a crappy job, but I've got a job. I'm lonely, but I'm free. I'm drowning myself in junk food, but at least it's yummy.

Right now there's very little required to push me over that edge again. But the feeling of going there is completely opposite to the one. It's easier to fall from grace than to soar free from some dark sea, foaming at you from below, aggravated by even the slightest wind.

And yet, the thing that knocked me off this pedestal today, is so small... So pathetic. I got yelled at by a girl I don't even really know, about being loyal to another girl I don't know. Instead of shrugging it off, I wondered for the entire day, what could I have done differently to please either party. What does it even matter? And yet, my game suffered today, it rained all day, I couldn't get myself to fixing me something decent to eat. I'm not even hungry. And here I am, watching a different movie a colleague promised to give me about a month ago now. Not with John C. McGinley, but with Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. No true comedy, but a deep drama with only slightest bits of comedy.

Iunno... I guess it's all making me think right now. The only thing I've done for joy this week is play Audition. Something this insignificant is taking the joy from it, and turning an addiction into what a drug addiction or alcohol addiction will eventually become. We use because we must, not because we want.

Geez, I've been writing this entry for an hour and a half and got like, 60, 70 lines done, that's less than a line a second. I'm just gonna stop now. I've embarassed myself enough, I think. The movie's over anyway. Feeling better getting this off my chest though.

Audicted

Oh, not again...

Well, Audition Online's been re-hosted, and from the moment I decided to try it, I've been completely addicted again. The reason I quit playing it anyway was because the songs totally sucked at the time. They've put in some new songs that considerably suck less, and in one week I'm already level 7 again. Though the bags underneath my eyes have reached epic proportions and the reason why lifts quite the amount of eyebrows at work. >_>

MeMe time! Yoinked from Sam~

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

inb4 what is it that you like about Shampoo.

I'd have to ask her whether it really was her own choice, as I have trouble believing that. I'd tell her I'd want to be friends again, visit her without any deeper intentions this time. Alas, I'm a giant coward, and do not want to hear that, should it be the case, it was her own decision. But I couldn't ask her even if I wanted to, nor could I tell her the latter, since we hardly ever talk anymore, and if we do, it's on MSN, and never for more than a couple of minutes, not giving me time to talk towards my bold statement.

Given the choice, I think she'd rather break all contact with me altogether. But that thought, too, hurts...

The term nostalgia describes a longing for the past, often in idealized form.[1] The word is a learned formation of a Greek compound, consisting of νόστος, nóstos, "returning home", a Homeric word, and άλγος, álgos, "pain" or "ache".

AND kinda cool. ; D

Note that I still have my hair - what's left of it anyway, and I can assure you my eyes are still stunningly blue. And yes. I know I need to shave. The damn thing even follows your mouse cursor when he's done... O_o

I am SO going to see this movie. It's almost like Bruce Willis makes every movie he's in awesome.

#EDIT: I fucking broke an arm off a Shampoo statue while making this. I'm taking it as a hint to build another (after fixing her arm, that is!)

Long weekend and freak weather

So we had the BHV test today, which sorta struck me as amateuristic this time. The first time we severely lacked good communication and I spent my time running from the first "disaster zone" to central. I'm saying first, because apparently while team one (myself included) was taking care of a "medium injury", which was either a broken or severely bruised leg, there was a second event unfolding, which was someone having a "heart attack". Just to make sure: These events were played, of course. Team one was never informed of the second event, and thus when the "ambulance" arrived, they took care of the heart attack patient, whom as I later heard, passed away. Because they used a different entry point, our ambulance receiving guy never saw one coming, and the communicator (me) was never told about a second emergency, nor was I informed that there had been an ambulance and on their side, the case was closed, leaving our bleeding victim to die.

Note that this case was evaluated later on as well done, as we learned from the situation. This kinda pissed me off.

The second case was somewhat more severe. A simulated gas leak (our external evaluator even had a vial with the scent additive that is added to natural gas, which made it all a very real experience) set off our evac alert. Once more, no communication devices were handed out, so this time I recommended to take them. After a bit of a hassle I was assigned as ambulance receiving party this time, but because I had a walkie-talkie, I was also communication point, so at least I felt useful. That is, after I had to send a team mate back into the mess to re-iterate the channel I was on with central. This bothered me as I already stated my channel when I set out to the entry point. All in all, the second exercise went a lot better. Our evaluator even commended me for suggesting the communication devices, but I still think others should've thought of bringing them. It did make me feel like a more valuable member of the team though.

And I have a long weekend coming up. One of my colleagues suggested I'd try to get my cels printed at a repro shop, since I don't intend to use a printer for many other situations. I doubt those three fancels a year would be worth a €50 printer. I think I'm gonna get started on another statue as well.

And, oh, the sleep to catch up. Weird thing is, since I permanently plugged in my new touch light near my bed I've already been sleeping better. I lol at the thought of being scared of the dark. ^_~

Wow!

I just burned the roof of my mouth so severely it started bleeding (actually, I just burned it repeatedly). On the same subject, I made stuffed bell peppers for the first time. They were DE-FUCKING-LICIOUS! I couldn't stop eating, even though it was horribly hot, hence the burns. ._.

Also, they had two really interesting discount offers at Dirk (my local supermarket). One was a couple of HORRIBLY CUTE PURPLE PILLOWS, so I've tossed the black ones I had to match with the black couch behind it, and replaced them with the cute purplies. The other was a touch light. One of them lamps that have a minor current going through the body of the lamp, when you touch the body anywhere, it goes on and off. I still needed a bed light, so that one's perfect. I won't have to look for a switch. ^_^

I've been requested for another out-of-platform programming job, I've been working some magic with our own macro's and I've got friday off. I'm actually having a good time right now! Shocker. ^_~

That was interesting... O_o

Apparently there's a restaurant about 200 meters down the platform where my train to work leaves from. Dad and me went there tonight, and I have to say I wouldn't be surprised if they got a star soon. Unsurprisingly the place was packed, it's a good combination of fancy and food, and situated on a station insures enough people see you, that is, if they're not as blind as I am. XD The place is called 'Perron 4/5 volgens Tollius', which literally translates to 'Platform 4/5 according to Tollius'. Obviously the place is situated between platform 4 and 5.

The whole thing hasn't been open for a year yet, though, and their story is interesting. As the station Amersfoort Central was completely remodeled after 1997, they've integrated many commercial structures into the outer side, but they were looking for a way to make the inside more 'people-friendly'. They came to the conclusion that the current default NS restaurant was insufficient and asked a restaurant owner to make this one of their branch restaurants. From what I've heard, it was a pain getting everything on the platform: There's an on-ramp about 400 meters down the platform, but they had to get every piece of equipment to the place by use of a cart. As for the place, they used the old waiting room, which was transformed into the NS place before, and it still bears the atmosphere of a waiting room, while having the warmth of a good restaurant.

The food was good and plentiful. The antipasti missto were a bit much, to be honest, but delicious nonetheless. Had a fig (or a piece of it anyway) for the first (and possibly last) time in my life. Two pieces of some saltwater fish with two interesting side-salads and some really delicious toast. My main dish was a veggie lasagna, which aside from some bitter leaves of rucola lettuce was very nice. Dad had some crossover between what we Dutchies call 'Slavink' and a steak. I actually ate quite a bit of that as well, which left me... stuffed to say the least. Their Earl Grey tea was quite delicious as well, although the bergamot had partially migrated from the tea.

It was an interesting dinner, in the middle of the station. And very much fun, since I haven't really done something together with my father in a long time. I can definitely recommend anyone who ever gets to Amersfoort CS and wants to eat at a decent restaurant, to try the place. I, for one, will definitely be back.

Wow, this actually turned into quite a review of sorts. XD

Well, that failed. XD

I just tried that program they're advertising for on the front page, to turn your LJ into a book. They program is made of epic fail. Not only is it bulky and extremely user-unfriendly, sluggish and only one usable lay-out, lest you adjust the lay-out page by page, but it also only takes the first year of my entries, which would not be so bad (apparently the first year is already 420 pages, which is 20 pages over limit, but more importantly stresses the importance of global lay-outs, as I refuse to change the lay-out 420 times!), if I could only SELECT which year I wanted to print. But apparently any year after 2005 is not important enough for a bookwork. 2005 is not exactly publish-worthy either, I know, and with this program, it will never happen anyway. Humanity's saved of one more atrocity by complete lack of user-friendliness and thus, useless bits.

Speaking of useless bits, anyone looking forward to Google Wave? Didn't think so. "This program combines blogging, photo posting and mailing and whatnot." Well guess what? I already have a program for it. It's called Windows. I don't need an extra intermediate to combine bullshit. Also, the whole comment that a mail uses up space is totally negligable as well, since an average mail takes up about 2000 bytes of space on a friggin' 120 gigabyte drive! My photo's are already stored online, and my blog needs to stay far, far away from it, thank you very much. What's more, I don't even want my mailing buddies on my LJ. I'm fine the other way around, but not that.

So, Blurb: If you want me to use your program, make it run smooth on a Dual Core 2GHz, 2GB PC with a VERY decent graphics card, and for the love of Shampoo, show me how to globally change the lay-out. Also printing my entire blog might be nice. Even if I have to scatter it over multiple books. The idea still intrigues me.

And Google: Stick with what you're good at and stop producing useless programs, kthx.

For the record: 2005 contained 6 Shampoo anime pictures, a couple of pics of my first vinyl kit and a constantly updated Gaia avatar (hotlinked). Imagine my surprise when I found a Gaia-tan in an entry from 2005. O_o

And yes. I have a Gaia-Tan. ^_^

My head of lab was reasonably disappointed with my decision. Most notably because there were actually TWO people required (which was not said at the introduction, they stated ONE person would go there). This makes my argument totally invalid, and now I've been given one day to reconsider.

Nice, because I totally love reconsidering. Especially since my main argument has been blown right out of the water. I hate the south. I just do.

Consideration

To everyone who gave me advice on my current issue, thanks. It turned out to be a harder decision than I thought, initally.

But, to use this knowledge to improve my position at the company over someone who actually wants to learn from it would not make me any better than the average bank manager who walks out of a building with his bonus cheque. I cannot accept that, and for that reason, I will yield the opportunity to my colleague.

Once again, thanks to everyone who helped me come to this decision (and can read this anyway! XD). I hope I do not offend anyone by writing this, which is not my intention. I don't like my job, but I like my colleagues, and wish them the best I can give. Hence my decision.

#EDIT: The title of Death Note 16 is "Decision". Hello irony! XD

A few strange facts

I've never sucked so much at a game that totally rocks my socks. Even after the aforementioned Contra 4. I'm talking about Bangai-O: Spirits, which is a total explosive gungasm.

Since the 'Nai I've taken a liking for a mainstream anime: Fullmetal Alchemist. Actually, the second series: FMA - Brotherhood. It's got decent comedy relief (better than Bleach anyway, which is now on hold until I finish some others).

Another anime without ANY COMIC RELIEF WHATSOEVER is now also on my list, as I've taken a non-human interest in Death Note. It's a very decent psycho-thriller, akshualli. Although I AM watching a dubbed version. If anyone's got a link to an online subbed version, you've got my ear. This site has like, 75% dubbed, 25% subbed...

I enjoyed fine-tuning some parameters on one of out machines so much today, I actually forgot the time, so aside from having 'express shift' and having checked the 19, which is a pain to do right now, I'm probably asking for a verbal beat-down by my first analist for making plus hours when I should be reducing.

It's Hiro's birthday!

Oh wait, that last one wasn't really strange. XD Happy birthday anyway! ^_^

I should update my anime list, but I'm too busy watching anime to do it. Irony, anyone?

And still awesome!

It has happened. 4Chan invaded Abunai. ._.

Last 3 cons I attended all had a Joker in it. It's an awesome costume, but hardly Japan-related, right?

Three captains at the bar. More Bleach pics to come.

Anji-chan as... err... XD

Dude with a gun.

I can't believe people still do Pokemon cosplays, but that Eevee idea is pretty cool. XD

Eddie Elric.

Master Chief.

I guess someone else got tired of the Free Hugs signs. And these ones actually DID something about it.

Ace.

Queue at the cosplay competition. They didn't fit in alltogether. Some people had to stand. I got dragged upstairs by the aforementioned bar captains and thanks to them, had a royal seat at the balcony. :'D

By the way. The people singing some of the acts sucked severely and hurt my ears. Mostly because they were off tune, but also because the speakers were up way too loud.

I didn't get a shot of everyone together this time, but this was by far the best Sailor Moon cosplay of the set anyway.

At this point, or rather, at the Bleach photoshoot during the evening, my camera got temporarily swiped.

The Mauster and YAY Yachiru!

Ichigo.

Sam and the Mauster in one pic. If she decides to do this cosplay again, I'm seriously considering cosplaying that idiot brother of hers. XD

"What the fuck? Mel! You missed out here.

Hitsugaya and his new-found shinigami girlfriend. It's the abunai logo.

The toe-socks choked off my feet, I noticed at the end of saturday. I still have trouble walking.

Daan did not care.

Apparently Hitsugaya was annoyed by the fact that Kenpachi got people on his back. XD

This guy does another crossplay every con. He never fails at being damn good at it either. I GOTTA ask him to do Shampoo one day. :3

???

Queue at the closing ceremony.

Yeah, I know. Not many pictures. I didn't get around to ask many people. I'm still sad the next con's so far away. ._.

Also, I bought Bangai-O Spirits today. It's even harder than Contra 4. And it's very awesome.

Tired as per usual. It was less awesome than last year's Abunai, but still pretty good. Pics tomorrow.

Now the long wait to Anime 2010 has begun. But at least I got my ticket to Chibicon 2010 already. ^_^

I heard there's this Dutch guy who sends other people fines when they use pictures yoinked grom Google images? If you ever get to read this, this one's for you:

Fuck you with a rake. ^_^

FYI, you can reach this image by searching "Ranma Shampoo" (sans quotation marks, of course), page 5.

Also: Wee! Shampoo. ♥

Still a bit raw in the throat. Hope that'll pass before the 'Nai.

#EDIT: Looked the guy's name up, his name's Peter-Vincent Schuld. Obvious joke about the rich double name and the ironic last name is TOO obvious, really. (Schuld means guilt or debt in English. A two-fer there!). Hey dickface! If I could find a picture of you I'd post it here.

Remember! With a rake!

Still had a good time with dad (and got some tasty groceries from his wife to boot! ^_^), and finally got to visit Melle, which I hadn't done in a while, either.

Public Enemies

Well, just went to the cinema, obligatory update.

The movie itself was awesome, I don't know how much is actually accurate, story-wise nor tech-wise (I would've forgotten most of my research when I got around to seeing the movie anyway), but the sound was, as the preview said, overwhelming and awesome in its own way. It's a long movie, and to spend that next to someone who apparently is so popular she is above the rule to switch off your phone and not put your foot (which, to boot -no pun intended- was dressed in some fugly-ass, knee-high white leathery shoe) in someone else's neck, is a challenge. She had nice hair though, and her boyfriend looked like his IQ did not surpass the length of the aforementioned shoe.

What is it with people nowadays, that everyone thinks they're so important they can't switch their phone off for three hours? One even went off during this relatively small time! But I counted four phones on DURING the movie! And TALKING! I know it's hard for most people to shut the fuck up for two periods of one and a half hour, but if you really can't even accomplish that, then don't go to a movie.

By the goddess, there's so many people nowadays that can't think beyond the length of their penis or the depth of their boobs. They just can't seem to be able to grasp that there's other people on this planet. Go figure...

Still, it was a decent movie and I'm glad to have seen it. Next on the list is Inglorious Basterds. Yupyup. :3

Stupid commercials...

Couldn't think of a title. So random. ._.

Anyway, I came to the shocking discovery that Zwolle is now officially a strange town to me. I could only find one ATM Machine for my bank, and the others didn't accept my card yesterday, for some reason. The big post office in town shut down, apparently, and to be honest, the train station looked... unfamiliar in a way.

That aside, I should really be looking for a bigger place, but when mom left today and I was left to pack up my stuff and head out for dad's place, all alone in a house like that... I couldn't do that. I already understand how someone living in a house like that (it's a small rental house) would not want to be alone. I'm fine here, in this room, I just don't have the storage space, and the rent is more than rediculous (by now, about as much as mom is paying for her house, amusingly enough). All that's left is an apartment in a crummy flat, but what would I do if my contract will not be re-issued?

My own mother doesn't seem to understand I'd rather have some certainty before I put more chaos into my life by moving again. And here I thought I was doing so well.

Also, I'm finally at the point in Ah! Megami-sama! where Peorth enters the story. The Shampoo Fan is very disappointed. It's a cross between Aika's dressing code, Shampoo's worst trait, and some horrible anime slut's stubborness. A pain to my eyes, ears and soul.

I'm watching a really depressing move right now, as well... I seem to be picking my moments.

Audiosurf//Raycatcher

It should already be a crime to name these two games in one sentence. I'm a fan of indie games, simply because the giant gaming organ has lost all originality, and the games are no longer fun to play. I'm a 26 year-old gamer. I have witnessed original games, but hardly any in these last few years.

One indie game I liked particularly, was Audiosurf. A reasonably intelligent, powerful interpretation engine created levels out of your own music. Levels were as hard as your music was intense. It's a simple, yet very fun game to play.

Imagine my surprise when I see another game on Steam, indie, "responds to your music", so they said. The game price was lowered from a whopping $20 to $4,90. How bad could it be, right?

A quick story inbetween. Lately, I've been swayed by another semi-indie game, Etrom - The Astral Essence. The preview looked awesome, the catchphrase ("Diablo meets WoW") sounded good, and it was on discount. I bought it for a mere 5 Euro's, how bad could it be, right? Well... horrible, actually. The game doesn't start in Vista (no support, it's a game from 2007 with patches well into 2008!) unless you do a whole ritual while starting it (I had to burn the head of a moose, among other things!), there was no decent tutorial, the VFX looked worse than Oni (which, in turn, looked VERY GOOD for its time, around 2001, hehe - I also had a lot of fun playing THAT!), no Anti-Aliassing or decent level building, the inventory system was crap, they hotkeys made no sense, and the moment you killed a couple of guards (the only plus about this game, you can either use some funny, badly-balanced guns or a huge, mind-projected axe), and your inventory is full (six guns, tops, and a gun in your offhand). I go back to the shop, cash in a good amount, and step back outside, only to be greeted by one of the guards I killed like, 5 minutes ago! Three shop stops later, the game crashes on me, and I decide this DVD functions better inside the box.

So back to the 5-dollar game. I figured once more, how bad could it be? I already bought one shitty game this month, this one can't suck as much. But it did, actually. This blog, which helped me reduce some of the bugs in the game, pretty accurately describes it. The game hardly responds to your music, the sphere rotates sometimes without me moving my 3000 DPI mouse (a true gamer mouse I've never actually used to full resolution, here), resulting in unwanted downleveling. Adding my own music was a horrid challenge as well, as - as I figured out from said blog - the Open File Dialog opens UNDERNEATH the game in fullscreen mode. To quote my friend there, "Rookie mistake". The evolution bit is nice, but doesn't remotely compensate for the crappy gameplay, unbalanced levels, and lies about interactivity.

This is actually the second misbuy from Steam in a row. The first I made was the X-Com series. I already had the CD's, but I figured Steam would be able to give me some tech support on the games, and might make them function better. I couldn't be more wrong. Steam just ripped the games from their respective CD's, draining it of movies, put the DOS games in a DOSBox window without the ability to change its settings (and believe me, some games need that!). And support? Steam tells me to contact the game manufacturer.

X-Com and its follow-ups were made by Microprose, one of the few big game companies that produced big games. Hasbro noticed this as well, bought them for $70mln, and made sure they never produced (or SUPPORTED, for that matter) anything like this again. Hasbro isn't exactly innovative, but then it was bought by Infogrames (who USED to make some good games!), and they stopped supporting ALL of the older games, including the entire X-Com series.

I'm done buying games from Steam, it's a fraud, really. I'm done buying modern indie games (Etrom and Raycatcher have made sure of that), and sticking with old games and mods. Diablo 2 - MedianXL is the most brilliant game mod ever, and I intend to play that more now. Fuck the modern gaming industry. With a rake.
